I love the zoom in on people nodding their head in 100% agreement. The complete focus of everyone.
The reality is children fighting over arm rest or sleeping. Parents looking exhausted worrying about this months water bill.
had a quick look at the workbook and flicked through the sample meeting video.. the increased use of video shows the trend for more centralised dissemination of "best practice" .
sure there isn't really a "school" any more and the format is a bit different but i think those that called it as the same old crap just in new package got it pretty much right.

in the first sample video of the clam meeting (christian life and ministry) at about 5 minutes, 50 seconds in, a brother (steven phillips) is assigned the first segment of the new meeting, "treasures from god's word.
" ( http://tv.jw.org/#video/vodstudio/pub-jwbrd_201510_5_video ).
he shows just how sloppy the wts still is at trying to explain the deeper meanings of scriptures.
since this will be the norm in america, perhaps we should put a date on each of these topics.
can't really put school mass shooting because too many to choose from.
something struck me last week.
i have been dealing with what i can only describe as a fear of death.
i'm not old and not in bad health.
If our life wasn't so short, it wouldn't be such a hard pill to swallow. Depending on health and other factors you may live to 80 or a couple decades beyond. But even at 100 years that isn't much time, and for many those later years is fraught with chronic disease.
We on average spend 1/3 of our life asleep, and another 1/3 on mundane things (driving, bathing, defecating ect..). If you're a JW you spend the other 1/3 in servitude.
I think if we as a species could live longer lives then maybe death wouldn't seem so bad. Could you imagine being married to the same person for 300 years? Death would be welcomed.
are the governing body of the wt wickedly smart with extremely high iq or are they leaders of the wt because they were at the right place at the right time.
(in other words, pure luck )-think lottery.
ive seen them talk in jwtv and you can never convince anyone in the whole world that these guys are in the same category as someone smart or cunning like jim simons who founded renaissance technologies or bill gates.
How many of the GB members went to college??
It's my understanding that they all have the equivalent of a Bachelor's Degree.
In the JW world, do they still believe if reading the WT & Awake 4-8 years is an equivalent of a college degree?
Now that it's going to be bi-monthly and is half what it was in the 90s, does that mean it takes 20 years of reading to reach that urban myth?
I don't necessarly believe a person has to have a college degree to be equated as being intelligent. A person can be well read, and have a limited public education. I doubt these men are well read, and if they are I doubt they use critical thinking. That is my opinion referenced by their communication on www.jw.org
i've always wondered about this.
i've always felt the main reason the borg made publishers do time slips/field service reports was to show that they are doing a community service to justify their tax exempt status.
we all know about their money grabs with the kh build scams, their selling off millions of dollars in real estate, etc.
It isn't something knew but the problem is some of the same issues the WT faces so does other churches. I feel the only way for them to lose their tax exempt status is when all churches do. This isn't something likely to happen soon.
The gay marriage upheld by the supreme court may cause that issue to be a reason.
In an op-ed published by Fusion, financial writer Felix Salmon made his stance on the matter crystal-clear in his first sentence: “Now that the U.S. government formally recognizes marriage equality as a fundamental right, it really shouldn’t skew the tax code so as to give millions of dollars in tax breaks to groups which remain steadfastly bigoted on the subject.”
the culture of jws as encouraged by the watchtower is one of informing on one another, reporting to either the elders or ones designated head.
whats the wackiest thing that someone reported on you?
im not talking about a black-and-white watchtower rule that would land you in a judicial committee, but some judgmental nonsense that someone thought they should turn you in about?.
There was this elder's wife who made a full dish of fudge. I was at her home with my brothers and we left after a few hours of visiting. This was when we were teenagers. She then called my mother accusing us of eating all her fudge. We were considered the low caste witness since our father wasn't one. We denied it but this Elder's wife and her Elder husband continued to accuse us. The fact is we wouldn't touch their food because they had many cats in the house that were allowed on the kitchen table, and cat hair was everywhere.
Then a couple hours later she called and apologized, apparently her son broke out in a hive. He then admitted to eating all that fudge. Seems like a harmless incident but this was my family's experience all throughout the religion during my youth. If you are viewed as a spiritually weak family then you are under scrutiny.
i keep hearing this in threads.....
i'm wondering why ones on this forum initially became jw's.
if you were born in, why did you make it "your own"?
if you became one later, what was your draw and driving force?
I was sorta of a born in. My parents began studying when i was around age 4-6 can't remember exactly. I became inactive around age 18 and stop believing completely at 22. I did make the truth my own around age 15 to 16. But began having doubts.
I didn't learn TTAT until many years later on this site. I do recall visiting here maybe 1999 I think and there was a discussion about 1914 generation that further my doubts. Can't remember if it was this site. It was not completely anti jw at the time but a mixture of people. I'm just glad I didn't waste my youth on JW, instead I wasted it on online video games :)
i have very few active jw on my facebook, mainly the more liberal ones.
anyway a few of them have posted links or references to richard dawkins and other avowed atheists.
today a long time jw posted a link from the richard dawkins foundation blasting the celebration of easter as pagan.

I feel like putting a response with a link to his viewpoint on the JW creation book. The GB are such great role models that their lemmings imitate them well in the cherry picking field.
